Non-Fiction November Week 2: Be the Expert

This week’s topic for Non-Fiction November is “Be the Expert.” I’m a musician, so I guess you could say I’m an expert in classical music, although calling myself that makes me cringe a little… let’s just say I’m constantly and continually working toward becoming an expert, because a person is never done learning their craft, right? šŸ™‚

So here are some of my favorite books about classical music (the overall genre, not the time period) for fellow professionals, amateurs, or the layperson. Really, for anyone who enjoys playing, listening and learning more about the genre at any level.

This next list is for fellow music teachers. I used to be a part of a piano teachers reading group. It was wonderful! Many of the books on this list were ones read and discussed in that group, but despite having a piano perspective, most of them transfer to music teaching in general. (That was important to me, since piano makes up only a small part of my studio).

Do you enjoy classical music? Have you ever taken lessons? Do you have a favorite piece? Let me know in the comments!
